Nyerere National Park

Nyerere National Park, located in southern Tanzania, is one of the country’s largest and most renowned wildlife conservation areas. Named after Tanzania’s first president, Julius Nyerere, the park was previously known as Selous Game Reserve before it was upgraded to a national park in 2019. Spanning over 30,000 square kilometers, Nyerere is a vital sanctuary for diverse wildlife and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park is known for its stunning landscapes, including vast savannas, dense forests, and numerous rivers, such as the Rufiji River, which meanders through the park.

The park is home to a rich variety of animals, including elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, and crocodiles. It is one of the few places where large populations of elephants can still be found in the wild, making it a key destination for wildlife enthusiasts and researchers alike. Additionally, Nyerere is home to endangered species such as the African wild dog and the black rhinoceros.
