Ndutu, a stunning area located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania, is renowned for its unique landscapes, abundant wildlife, and annual migration spectacle. Ndutu encompasses part of the Serengeti ecosystem, with open grasslands, acacia woodlands, and seasonal alkaline lakes, including the picturesque Lake Ndutu. The region’s distinct mix of habitats supports an incredible variety of animal species, drawing nature enthusiasts and photographers from around the world.
One of the highlights of Ndutu is its pivotal role in the Great Wildebeest Migration. Between December and March, over a million wildebeest, along with thousands of zebras and gazelles, journey to the short-grass plains around Ndutu to give birth. The timing is essential: the abundance of fresh grass following seasonal rains provides ample nourishment for nursing mothers and young calves. This annual migration attracts predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, creating an intense yet vital circle of life that sustains the ecosystem.
